Quick Summary
A State Bank of India (SBI) customer since 2001 is facing a PAN validation issue due to a mismatch between the fifth character of their PAN and the first character of their last name, as reported by the new software update. This has led to account restrictions and repeated requests for KYC. The customer previously removed their surname from their PAN to link it with Aadhaar, which may be the cause of the discrepancy. They are seeking advice on how to resolve this problem.
Open an account with some other bank. Such issues should have never cropped up in the first place but it seems a clear case of coding glitch in the software.
