In case of sole propreitorship, you need not apply for a change in the PAN to the name of the "trade name" in which the person intends to carry on the business.
You can refer the instructions for filing Form 49A, Instruction.(f) Item No.1 wherein it mentions "
| In case of sole proprietorship concern, the proprietor should apply for PAN in his/her own name. |
| Name should not be prefixed with any title such as Shri, Smt, Kumari, Dr., Major, M/s etc." |

Also, while filing ITR, you need to file it in the name and PAN of the propreitor. However, there is a provision in the ITR to mention the "Trade Name".

No Need to Change name in the PAN card, since it is a properitorship, he can be assessed in Income tax with his name.
