Padhuka is good for AMA. But for DT, T N Manoharan is better if u r looking for exam oriented book.

Good for AMA.

Can I rely on Padhuka AMA alone for both Theory & Problems without referring to SM,PM & RTP of ICAI because Padhuka claims to cover all variety of problems.

For Theory,PM is more than sufficient as Padhuka contains other questions as well on theory which are not even asked in ICAI Exam.
For Practical, you have to do PM side by side. You can ignore same kind and repetitive sums

Nothing can replace insitute material for costing study material and PM. Padukas is good for theory. For tax there is notihng better than TN Manoharan along with PM.

For AMA : ICAI Practice Manual

Reasons: 1. Contains all types of question category wise

2. No need to solve any other book, as it has 153 Theory, 374 Practical and 54 Scenario Based Questions.

3. You get an idea of how to present the answers in the exams, as expected by ICAI

FOR DT: None other than VINOD GUPTA. Contains questions of last 52 attempts (26 years) as amended by the Finance Act, 2016. Also Refer PM for presentation purpose (don't solve PM as it has many errors and can confuse you).

P.S. I had also purchased Padhuka of AMA, but after solving PM, i did not feel the need of it. Although I might refer it for theory. And for DT I went for Vinod Gupta in the first place.

AMA : Institute's material and PM.

DT : Vinod Gupta sir's book is best
Sanjay Aggarwal is best for AMA
Padhuka Covers 90% of PM Questions. So, if u solve padhuka, u may check PM for remaining questions and solve them.

PM of any subject : Is it just a compilation of past examination questions with suggested answers or are there any additional questionsin it too?

One basic question: From where does a new variety of problem in Costing or OR pop up first? Does it appear first in the examination itself or the RTP ? I feel that if a problem of new variety appears for the first time in the exam, even a brilliant student may find it difficult to solve this never before seen problem completely.

For AMA, I personally relied on PM. I also bought Padhuka for reference, but mostly did not need it.

For DT, I would suggest Nihit Jhaveri. Though most people suggest Vinod Gupta or Manoharan, I believe Jhaveri has done a much better job than them from an examination perspective. I studied from his book and then did sums from Bangar's compiler. You can substitute Bangar's compiler with the PM too.
@ Amol, PM is mostly a compilation of past exam questions with suggested answers. As for as a new question in AMA is concerned, mostly that doesn't happen. Past questions are asked with modifications. However keep in mind that ICAI has a wide source of questions such as that from ICWA or CIMA or other cost accounting bodies. So as a student, there's no way we can cover each and every sum possible.
