Non resident self occupied property

362 views 4 replies
Upto FY 2019-20, assessee was a resident in India.

A Property was let out

During FY 2020-21, assessee went abroad permanently and became non- resident for tax purposes.

The property was let out for 2 months out of the 12 months.

Can the property be shown as self occupied for tax purposes for the remaining 10 months?

Yes it can be deemed as self occupied after vacant of property

As I understand, if a house property is let out for part of the year, it is considered as let out for the entire year.

Loss due to vacancy can be reduced to arrive at taxable income.

Thanks Poornima ji. Can you also share the text of the section you are referring to.
