GST registration typically takes 3 to 7 working days, but the actual path depends on which track your application lands in.
Check your ARN status at Services > Registration > Track Application Status:
- Pending for Verification means an officer has your file. You get an email if they raise a query and you have 7 working days to respond.
- SCN (Show Cause Notice) issued means the notice is formal. Reply through the portal with supporting documents within 7 working days from the notice date.
- Pending for Processing means the file is still queued and no officer has opened it yet. This can stretch beyond 7 days if the system flagged your application for closer review.
If you have crossed 15 working days with no notice and no approval, check your registered email for a Deficiency Memo (REG-03), which also has a 7-day response deadline.
Once your GSTIN comes through, you will also want to verify if your turnover puts you under the e-invoicing obligation.
