Need urgent help on notice

I filed my Income Tax Return (ITR) for AY 2025–26 under the old tax regime. Recently, I received a notice from the Income Tax Department asking me to submit supporting documents for a deduction claimed under Section 80C. Unfortunately, I am unable to locate the required documents.

I would like to know whether I can now file a revised return and switch from the old tax regime to the new tax regime. My total annual income for AY 2025–26 was approximately ₹6 lakh, and under the new tax regime I would not have any tax liability.

Is it permissible to change the tax regime by filing a revised return in this situation? If not, what are my available options?

You cannot switch tax regimes via a revised return after receiving a scrutiny notice for missing documents; your primary recourse is to locate duplicate proofs, respond to the notice, or accept the disallowance and pay the tax on the disallowed 80C amount.
