Need to file nil itr?

606 views 9 replies

Hello,

I am an individual aged 23 years. I had filled ITR for two years until last year(it includes tds as I worked as a consultant). In March 2013, I left my job to pursue higher studies. I have had no income in the past year (FY 13-14).

So, is it necessary to file ITR this year? If not, is there any other step to be taken?

Thank you very much.

You may continue to file ITR even if there is no income.

Thanks Nila... can i confirm about it from somewhere?

Refer Section 139 of IT Act 1961. You need not file return if you have no taxable income.

But, if TDS refund is due, you may file return to claim refund.

No TDS refund is due now. Everything was adjusted for FY 12-13.

it is not  necessary to file ITR, if you have no Income.
