Name on the pan card is different from ? dept. records.

Check out with PAN Applicatio made..What was written and wheter it was a typin mistake made by the deparment.

If yes you can contact nsdl and try and get it rectificed. And if yo dont have the application try go for a reapplication for PAN card where you can gat a gazetted officer certificate and apply for Name change.

Consequense could be that in future it could create some problem for assessee for issuing or geting legal work done as the NAME on PAN and other documents will be different.

So its better you rectify the PAN

If you have the proof for the correct name (One address proof and one photo ID proof), then simply file a correction application along with the necessary proofs. This is a common error which can be rectified by a correction application.
