On purchase of shares in the D-mat form, an individual becomes the member of the Company from the date of registration of shares in one's name in D-MAt form.

Regarding keeping track of the promoters of the Company, this track is maintained by the MCA and anybody an check the same by paying the requisite fee. The Track is kept in the form of Form 1 (name application form) and also in the form of Signatories to Memorandum of Association of the Company and Articles of Association of the Company. Since these signatories will remain same, thorugh out the existance of the Company.

If the company is listed in BSE we can look into the Shareholding pattern filed with the exchange under clause 35 of the listing agreement. Specific reference to be made to the annexure to the said pattern.It contains the current promoters of the company.
