Let's try and differentiate between the most confusing characters of a corporate industry...and here we go....
1. MEMBER: A member of a company is the one who holds the Equity Shares of that particular company + His name has been entered into the Register of Members of the company Also, Dividend declared by the company is distributed to only those equity shareholders whose names appear in the Register of Members.
2. Shareholders: A shareholder in simple terms is a person who buys &holds any share of a company. They become members once their name is entered into the Register of Members. Caution: In case of a company limited by guarantee, where the is no presence of Share Capital, their members cannot be termed as Shareholders. 
One doubt that came into my mind earlier was..phir difference kya hai dono main? Any person holding a share will see to it that his name is registered under the register of members, after all he does not want to lose Dividend! Well, in actuality if the transfer process has not been completed wholly on the company's part(specifically) then his name must be absent from the Register of members.
3. Promoter: He is the person who fuels the business and gives it a kick start.Yes!!you are thinking on the right lines..he is the founder of the business.Majority of the Board decisions are controlled by him since he is the person who holds majority of the stake. He is responsible for raising capital, targeting initial leads and chasing business opportunities,entering into initial contracts for business formation and incorporating Co. (In exceptional cases, it could be even a major investor of the target company & not necessary a start up man)
4. Subscriber: A person who signs MOA of a new firm and pledges to buy the number of shares against its name.
