Suppose i am the IT file holder and paid mediclaim premium by cheque from joint account with my wife, the a/c is not shown in my existing IT file and my wife has no IT file. should i get deduction u/s 80D, suggest.

Yes, you should be getting the 80D deduction as the amount has been paid out by your wife by cheque. There is nothing in the Act which says that the amount should have been paid out of your own account. The only condition the Act puts is it should not have been paid by cash. Please proceed to claim on the basis of premium paid receipt.

To Claim dedution under section 80D :

payment should be made out of income chargable to tax

and should be made any mode other than cash

payment has been made from your joint bank account

so you can claim under section 80D

Yes U can claim deduction u/s 80D

Yes you can claim U/S 80D only condition Cheque should be signed by you and in Receipt payment name should be yours
