I wish to do MBA from IIM after completing my CA, so does IIM grant any exemptions to a person who is already a CA ?

Don't expect from IIM to give any exemption to any one except to disabled Mr. Junaid

CAT pe nazar rakho...they do give exemption to CA but for their FPM programme not for MBA

Hi Junaid, IIM Bangalore gives certain weightage to professional qualification in their selection process..And for professional qualification, IIMB considers only chartered accountancy, cost accountancy and company secretaryship. No other professional qualification is given any weightage by IIMB for admission to mba. Dont knw if any other IIM gives any specific weightage to courses like ca,cma and cs(Every iim has their own set of selection policies..To know the selection criteria of all the iims, visit the official website of each iim-u will get the info there)

As Jithin said, don't expect the tables shifting towards your side for CAT just because you are a CA.

But from what I understand, if you are a CA and get called to the interview round and have decent communication skills and personality, you have a very good chance of getting selected because they need to diversify their background.

Source: Research done for myself. Planning on taking the CAT in Oct, 2014 cleared CA in Nov 2013.

I completely agree with Siddarth in this concept. And I don't really understand the word "exemption" here. There are several IIMS(not all) in the country which give some additional points for being a Chartered Accoutant and a Non-engineer , that doesn't anyway mean that you are exempted for taking CAT. You can't conclude anything about the IIMs until you take CAT till your call gets converted(it is a long process).

CAT is very tough for those whose Verbal ability and Quantitative Apitude is not upto the mark.

Yes competing with best brains from IIT's in secure score in CAT is a challenge. But, nonetheless it is important for you to focus on core areas which generally CA's lack the acumen to hone your skills. Drive the passion towards your goal and surely you will find the path to IIM achievable. Best wishes.

FPM is a four year programme like PHD. Not regular MBA
