Regarding your query about pursuing an MBA (regular) while appearing for CA Final exams, here is the official position and the practical reality concerning ICAI regulations:

ICAI Regulations on Pursuing Other Courses

According to the ICAI Chartered Accountants Regulations, a student registered for the CA Final course is generally not permitted to pursue another regular full-time academic course (like a regular MBA) without the express permission of the Council.

  • Conflict of Interest: ICAI mandates that a CA student’s primary focus during the Articleship and the lead-up to the Final exams should be on the CA course itself. A full-time regular MBA, which involves daily classes and attendance requirements, is typically viewed as conflicting with the professional training and study requirements of the CA Final.

  • Need for Intimation: If you are planning to join a regular degree course, you are technically required to inform/seek permission from the ICAI. Failing to do so can lead to disciplinary issues or, in the worst-case scenario, the rejection of your attempt or difficulties during the completion of your Articleship/Final registration.

Practical Advice

  1. Avoid Regular Programs: Pursuing a full-time, regular MBA while also being a full-time student for CA Final is extremely challenging due to the heavy workload of both. Most students who choose to do both opt for Distance Education or Executive MBA programs which are recognized by the UGC/AIU, as these do not have mandatory daily attendance requirements.

  2. Verify with your Regional Office: Regulations can sometimes be nuanced based on specific notifications issued by the Board of Studies. It is highly recommended that you send a formal query to your local ICAI Regional Office or contact the Board of Studies (BoS) directly to confirm your specific situation before enrolling.

  3. Prioritize the CA Final: Given the rigorous nature of the CA Final, ensuring that your other commitments do not jeopardize your eligibility to sit for the exams is paramount.

Summary: You are generally required to inform the ICAI when pursuing a regular academic course. Because a regular MBA requires full-time attendance, it typically conflicts with ICAI regulations. Most students opt for distance learning or executive programs to avoid non-compliance and manage their study time effectively. It is recommended to contact your ICAI regional office for specific guidance before enrolling.
