Abhimanyu is right.......... maximum 35000 if assessee is below 65 and parents above 65 years of age.......... and maximum 40000 if assessee and his parents both are above 65 years of age (senior citizen).............

the max deduction can go upto 40,000rs as every1 agrees

In my opinion and according to act,

15,000 For( individual) &

20,000 for Parents Senior Citizend

but aggregate claim is only upto 15,000 or 20,000. (not 35,000)

Let,   A- me  ,B- wife , C- son ,  X-  Father,   Y-   Mother.

1. A-45yr, B- 42yr, C-21yr         Father-60yr , Mother- 58yr----------max 15k+15k=30k

2. plus 6yrs to all members age ----------------------------------------max 15k+20k = 35k

3. plus 21yrs (in point 1) to all member age --------------------------max  20k + 20k= 40k

Correct me if i m wrong....................

self spause and childerns-15k

Parents- 15k(additional to self 15k)

so the total is 30k

now if the parents are senior citizen than their  15k will be 20k so than the total will be 35k

and if yourself and spause are senoir citizen than you also eleigible to claim 20k so in that case the total deduction will be 40k

Its 15000/20000[normal person/seniour citizen] if assesee as well his parents are seniour citizen than he can claim a deduction upto 40000

In case of assessee and parents are senior citizens the aggregate amount of maximum deduction Rs. 40,000/-

In case of parents only senior citizens the aggregatea amout of maximum deduction Rs. 35,000/-

In case of assessee and parents are not senior citizens the aggregate amount of maximum deduction Rs. 30,000/-

Is 80 D benefit is available on total amount paid or service tax is excluded
