I would suggest both as both the books are good covering different aspects.

For Tax theory go for== TN Manoharan or Girish Ahuja

For Tax practicals go for== VK Singhania

 True.. From concept point of view, Manoharan's book is the best! But it lacks the practical questions for practice! However the case laws covered is a fantastic compilation!

Singhania's book fails in conceptual portion. However the huge number of practical question helps you check your level of understanding!
