Letter from Income Tax office regarding purchase of flat

I had purchased flat in May 2008. I've not yet filed my ITR for AY 2009-2010. Because I've not received the Form 16 from my employer yet.

Today I received the letter from income tax office regarding details for the purchase of the flat (sources/payments) etc. What type of documents should I provide and regarding what this demand is?

Also, is it important to file the ITR before sending the details?

They have asked for:

1. Proof of purchase.

2. Proof of payments.

3. Proof of investments used for payments

One more question other than TDS deducted by my employer, I've almost Rs. 9,000 tax due as self assessment. Please advice which Form/Chalan will I need to pay it and how can I calculate the Penality on it. Please give an estimate.

Hi Monu

Last Date of Filing return for Assessment year 2009-10 is 31st July 2009. You Don't have to pay any penalty. Just submit is before 31st July.You can pay the self assessment Tax in Challan No.280 available at www.incometaxindia.gov.in . you can deposit the tax in any nationalised bank.
