HC criticises cut-off date for resolving tax evasion matters

Delhi : THE Bombay High Court, on Friday, ruled that the cut-off date for resolving matters of tax evasion and complex tax transactions before the Settlement Commission was arbitrary. About 500 applicants had moved the court challenging the provision of the Finance Act, 2007. According to the provision, the Commission had to resolve matters that were pending till July 1, 2007 by March 31, 2008.
