Itr2 schedule salary help

ITR 483 views 12 replies

For last 5 financial years CPC while processing our ITR2 was looking at Income Under the Head Salaries of Form 16 to be entered in Line 1. i.e. income from Form 16 after getting exemptions of conveyance and employment tax.

But AY 2017-18 CPC ITR is trying to match gross total income from 26AS with TTI on ITR2 without understanding what exemptions and deductions are applied from Form 16. This creates a loss of Rs 21700 to taxpayer.

Hence please help me :

i) which line of Schedule SALARY ITR2 to enter Gross Total Income from Form 16

ii) which line of Schedule SALARY ITR2 to enter Tax on Employment Form 16

iii) which line of Schedule SALARY ITR2 to enter Conveyance Allowance from Form 16

Thank you,

1.  Fill the details of salary/ pension, allowances not exempt, perquisites and profit in lieu of salary, deductions under section 16 etc. as given in TDS certificate (Form 16) issued by the employer.

2.  However, if the income has not been computed correctly in Form No. 16, please make the correct computation and fill the same in this item..

1 Salary (Excluding all exempt/ non-exempt  allowances, perquisites & profit in lieu of salary as they are shown separately below)
2 Allowances not exempt (refer Form 16 from employer) ......... Taxable allowance (after deductions, if any)
3 Value of perquisites (refer Form 16 from employer)  ............. All the taxable perquisites as per form 16
4 Profits in lieu of salary (refer Form 16 from employer) .... ....... ... As per  form 16
5 Deduction u/s 16 (Entertainment allowance by Government and tax on employment)  ........... .....        ...  deductions like professional tax etc...

Dear Sir,

If we file like that then massage will shows Income chargable under the head salary is less then 90% of salary reported in TDS1, pls refer the working details

1) Basis salary.3,71,516/-

2) Allowance not exempted.1,98,672/-

3) Value of perquisites . 10,000/-

4) Exemption amount of Rs.75,748/- we not showed any where.

Total it comes of Rs.5,80,188/- ( witout exemption ) but as per tds report 6,45,936/-

Kindly help in this regard how to file the return.

What is this exempted amount ?

Whether shown in form 16?

Both the Conveyance Allowance and Tax on Employment are displayed on Form 16 and are exempted out from Gross Salary before arriving on Income under head Salaries.

Where to write Gross Salary which is 1st line of Form16

Where to write Rs 2500 which is tax on employmen

where to write Rs 19600 which is Conveyance Allowance which is exempt.

Please tell for above 3 lines.

Form 16 issued by employer is not in the shape and format that you pasted the 5 line points.

My question is very clear

1) Where to enter gross income

2) Where to enter Rs 2500 employment tax (I believe line 5)

3) Where to enter Rs 19600 conveyance allowance which is exempted in Form 16, where should it come on ITR2.

Finally, Income under the head salaries should displayed Rs 21700 less from gross income of line 1.

Dear Sir,

Exempted amount means gross salary - exempted amount mentioned in form 16 in part B.

Yes, I wanted to know the exact nature of allowance to verify its exemption and the limit, under the section.

Well, here you deduct the same from gross salary and fill in the balance data in colunm no. 1.

Both the Conveyance Allowance and Tax on Employment are displayed on Form 16 and are exempted out from Gross Salary before arriving on Income under head Salaries.

Where to write Gross Salary which is 1st line of Form16.... Nowhere.

Where to write Rs 2500 which is tax on employment?  ...... column 5.

where to write Rs 19600 which is Conveyance Allowance which is exempt.

In the first column after deduction of all these allowances whether taxable or non-taxable.

Taxable allowance will figure in column 2 (along with excess of deduction limits)

Similarly perquisites & profits in lieu of salary will figure in column 3 & 4.

Sir,

It means Line 1 of Schedule SALARY of ITR2 will have:

Amt which is first listed in Form16 is not to be written anywhere on ITR2. However, from that first amount we have to subtract Conveyance Allowance 19600.

Eg Gross Salary:1000000 is the first entry on Form 16

Conveyance Allowance exempt: 19600 is second entry on Form 16

Tax on employment: 2500 is the 3rd entry.

Income under the Head Salaries = 1000000 - (2500 + 19600) = Rs 977900 is the fourth entry on Form 16

Then,

Line1 ITR2:  Enter Gross Salary(first value of Form 16) - 19600 = Rs 980400

Line 5 ITR2: Tax on Employment Rs 2500

This will give me Line 6 has "Income under Head Salaries" on ITR2 correctly.

Please confirm if the above is correct.

Yes, correct..... ie, 9,77,900/- (provided 2500/- not additionally paid by employer)

No, employer has not paid additional Rs 2500 to me. Infact from my gross salary employer has deducted two components:

1) Conveyance Allowance exempted Rs 19600

2) Tax on employment Rs 2500

3) Here in Line 3 it arrived at "Income Under the Head Salaries"

All I can say is the ITR forms are very badly conceived and designed. They contain several typo mistakes.

Eg ITR Schedule SALARY on Line 7 says "Line 6 below" whereas if we see, Line 6 does not come below Line 7.

The ITR team is not ready to hear any such complaints. They says forms are notified, nothing can be done.

Overall a very bad design for ITR return forms. Things on excel should have been quite simple to understand.

Take the return forms of USA, their forms have simple english language instructions on how to fill by looking at their Form 16.

Each form has a several pages of instructions sheet.

This year ITR2 the Schedule Salary is little different structured. Allowances are separate below. So my question....

Do we need to enter Rs 19200 as conveyance allowance in the Allowances section below in Schedule SALARY of ITR2?
