ITR filing mistake

ITR 323 views 5 replies

I am salaried person and I filed ITR  based on form 16. HRA details is based on form 16. HRA details is based on rent receipt I submitted to company. While filing tax by mistaken I selected Type of house property as self occupied and filed return. I realized this mistake when I downloaded form. Do I need to revise return and update type of house property as nil or empty and resubmit return?

If you do not own any house property, you need not fill Schedule HP at all. I.e. in ITR 1, you should leave the column blank.

I don't have my own house. I made mistake and filed return already. Should I revise it for this change? Please let me know.

Advisable to revise return with correct data.

You cannot leave any space . you have to put zero.

HRA exemption you fill as per form 16  and , your salary income and diductionand exemption should tally form 16,  income from house property you leave it , if you selected self , you might not get HRA exemption, I am not sure only after 143(1) intimation you will come to know. If you have doubt revised ITR1 dont fill any thing at house property keep on select and zero value.
