You should have windows 7. Earlier version have some problem.

If u r working with win7.  then try following

1] File-->options-->customize ribbon --> on right side  - check "on" developer. Now developer tab will be visible

2] Click developer --> visual basic-->in VB --> tools-->reference

search for XL object library as well microsoft off Library.

Now generate XML . normaly it should work.
