This error at the Proceed for Verification step almost always comes from the bank account pre-validation status on the e-filing portal.
Three things to check:
1. Go to My Profile > Bank Accounts on the e-filing portal. Check whether your bank account shows as Validated (not Pending or Failed).
2. If the account shows EVC enabled and Validated, you are fine. If it shows Pending, wait 24-48 hours for the bank to confirm the pre-validation.
3. Ensure you have selected an account type (Savings or Current) correctly. Leaving the account type blank blocks pre-validation.
If all accounts are still pending validation and you cannot wait, two workarounds:
- Use Aadhaar OTP for e-verification instead of bank EVC. This works if your Aadhaar is linked to PAN and your registered mobile is active.
- Use net banking verification through your bank site directly (login to net banking, find the e-verify ITR option).
If the error persists after pre-validation is complete, raise a grievance on the e-filing portal under Helpdesk > Submit Grievance. Mention the error message (if any), the ITR form type, and the AY.
