Is un-utilized amount received from builder towards alternate accommodation taxable?

Tax queries 158 views 1 replies

Respected Sir/Madam,

The society is going for redevelopment. Builder is not providing alternate accommodation but is ready to pay some amount per month to the members towards alternate accomodation.

I already have my own other flat, so I do not need alternate accommodation.

My question is, I will be getting some additional amount per month towards house rent that will not be utilized as such towards the intended purpose. Is this amount now taxable under ‘Income from other Sources’?

Thanks
