Hello Folks,
I would like to seek your guidance on following queries –
Is self study an option for IPCC? I will appear for Group 1 in Nov ’10 and I don’t wish to go for coaching classes, to be honest.
Should I go through the study material provided by ICAI, will it suffice to clear the exam? Or I should study from other books, if other books is an answer – kindly suggest some good names.
Your suggestions and guidance will be greatly appreciated.

For self study :-
Income tax- girish ahuja
For other subjects of 1st group- PC Tulsian.
For law u can also refer to gk kapoor, bhandari is in notes form but its a nice book.
I am also doing self-study and these books are more than suffice.

Yes.
Self study is 100% an option in IPCC. Some of the pre-conditions of self study are:
1. You must be aware of the course content.
2. You must be aware of the exam pattern.
3. You must be aware of the good reference books.
In self study time management is very important. Never waste your time.
For the success of self study have a regular discussion with your friends who are taking coaching. Share your notes and observations with them.

For Accounts - I have been recommended hanif & mukherjee by some mentors in the forum, which one is better Shukla & Grawal or hanif & mukherjee.
Key differentiator for me is which one is Self Explanatory?
