Is PAN Jurisdiction change required for NRI?

Dear CAs,

Greetings.

Is PAN Jurisdiction change required for NRI, if it is currently under the domestic circle, for ITR filing?

Thank you for the advice.

Quick Summary
This discussion addresses whether Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) need to change their PAN jurisdiction if it's currently under a domestic circle, specifically for Income Tax Return (ITR) filing. The general consensus is that the tax department usually handles this automatically. While no direct action might be required from the assessee, it's advised to select 'non-resident' in the return and provide relevant details like country of tax residence and foreign tax ID.

Usually, the formality is complied by department itself. Assessee need not do anything.

You just need to select non-resident in the return, and perhaps add details of the country of tax residence and the foreign tax ID number.

There is also an option to update the same three things in the filing account, but you still need to enter it in the return.

Thank you for the replies.
