in the year of death, if the deceased earned any income, the return has to be filed and verified by his/her legal heir. If there is any income received by his/her legal representative on behalf of the deceased, then it will be assessed in the hands of legal heir in their separate capacity as a legal representative. Any outstanding demand of the deceased can be recovered from the legal representative
