is CA worthful if you are working?

Hi friends...

Is doing CA worthful if you are working in an organisation? Suppose if you have done MBA (Finance) in local institute and earning 5 Lakhs per5 annum, do you think its good decision to leave the present job and Do CA for 5 years, the opportunity cost of which comes to Rs 25 Lakh.  If you finish CA in first attempt you will be getting an average of Rs 3-5 Lakh salary per annum.

I think Experience in this field matters and not qualification. Because  i am in dilema whether to waste my precious three years of corporate exposure in articleship or not?

This is quite debatable matter. Please contribute for this

leaving a job and doing CA doesnt make sense. If you are earning 5 lakhs without CA and are going to earn the same after CA, thers no point in doing it.

You didn't factor in the pay hikes or the opportunity that can be bargained elsewhere in your opportunity cost.

If a student is in 12th std, and he is deciding to choose between CA and MBA, he cud do CA provided that he is sure he wont get into any top 20 colleges. If he has the capability to get into top 20, he shud go ahead and not waste time in CA...however he can do cpt and take articleship in big4...to earn money and enjoy life at the same time learn a few things.

Thank you Krunal.

What about ICWAI and CFA from US? . Even i thought that doing CA leaving current job is not a good option. instead i can go for ICWAI which has equal value of CA. i have seen companies offering position with qualification as either CA/ICWAI. what do you say?

ICWAI and CFA are very good options. But it all depends on what you wish to do ultimately. If you want a career in Investment Banking, CFA should be priority, off course knowledge gained in ICWA also helps to some extent.

If you want a carrer in commercial/retail/private banking or say in risk management...MBA Finance is an ideal option, which you have already done, so you can look for some other specialisation in those areas...SAP courses are good but are very costly.

If you want a career in finance - accounting, taxation etc do something in IFRS, and there are some good courses available in taxation as well.

thank you very much for your suggestions.

Thinking of going for core finance.

yes it is

No..... It is definitely not worth it... Unless you want your kids to brag in school that their dad is a CA..... Coz CA is not an industry oriented course...... Go for other courses like CFA or CIMA if you really want to....

Thank you very much friends...any more updates
