Dear Sumit,
It is advised to start new series in FY 18-19 for proper records/ documentation.
GST does not mandate a taxpayer to start a new invoice no in the new financial year.It should be an unique number.It is upto the choice whether to start a new invoice invoice number or continue with the same as on 31 st March.
It's your choice. No more restriction for changes or continuos...

No. its not mendatory that you will have to generate new invoice no. from 1. but if you generate invoice no. in any f.y from 1 then it's better for you.
