NR is Non Resident not a citizen of India
NRI is an Indian citizen resided outside India

A person not a citizen of india, however he is a person of Indian origin and comes to India in a previous year then what will be the status ?

POI will be NR. However, POI card holders have other benefits also. POI will not fall into catagory of NRI bcz NRI are indian born who are located outside india whereas PIO born outside india but their parents or grand-parents born in India.
