Can anyone tell me if studying only from the Institute study material and past question papers will be enough for CA final exams? Is it really important to buy all those text-books from other publishers?
Someone told me recently that the Institute material covers everything I need to know for the exams as long as I do question practice also...is this true?
For theory subjects like ISCA, Law and Audit, Study Material is enough and doing past years questions in exhaustive and you do not need to buy anything
For Accounts, SFM and Costing (AMA), Institute's module does not provide sufficient practice. You will find very few questions in these modules. Ya practice manuals do provide some practice.But, this is CA Final, we need to practice a lot, therefore I suggest you to buy some books
For DT and IDT, you may refer latest modules and practice manuals

For some subjects like Auditing & ICSA the institute's material are more than sufficient.
For DT and IDT you need to buy latest book as the institute's material would be out dated by the time you are eligible for your attempt.
For subjects like Financial Reporting, SFM, AMA and Corporate Law, it would be advisable to supplement the material with an additional book of repute.
Supplement above with Suggested Answers, RTPs, Latest case laws and Practice Manuals.

Institute materials are generally vast and not student friendly. After all the CA final stage, we have to cover a lot of subject and require more time if you depends on the ICAI modules. Second, during the time of revisions , the huge content will discourage you mentally.
DT and IDT are useless.
Audit is a huge volume.
ISCA only you can go ahead with module
Many a times we need to take into account the time factor for your study plan. All the above suggestions are indeed valuable; you need to get started with the ICAI material firstly, if you have recently enrolled for final course. This will aid you in giving a better idea of the depth of the syllabus and provide an insight into the strengths and weakness.
Select books that give you confidence in terms of understanding the concept and presenting them well in the exam.
So, the early you get started, you may have more time to modify your study plan and attempt well in the examination.

There is a book by MP Vijay Kumar. It is comprehensive.

AND IT IS RECOMMENDED TO FOLLOW SOME REFERENCE BOOK ,
ALONG WITH PRACTISE MANUAL BY ICAI
For Accounting Standards you can refer DS Rawat.
It is an excellent book and good number of case studies are there in the book. Also supplement your preparation with institute's practice manual.
