Hi,

For the assessment year 2008-2009., I guess I filed the IT return twice by mistake- one online and the other on paper. When getting my IT refund for that year, this was an issue. However,I am guessing my agent got one cancelled before using the other.Anyway,I got my refund.

Does anyone know if i will be penalised for this.

Also, I t received the "communication on arrear demand:" email just like other members on the forum did?Do you know if they are related?

any help is appreaciated.Thanks

No u wont be penalised for all this. filing the same return twice, does not fall under any provisions under the Income tax act. As said by you, that your agent has cancelled one among the two its should'nt be a prob at all..

Hi,

Thanks for  your reply.Do you know why i have received this information even though my refunds have been processed and i have no tax dues?

This communication is with reference to the arrear demand as intimated to the Centralized Processing Center (CPC) by the

respective Assessing Officer (AO) assessing your income for the specified assessment years.

The table at the bottom of this intimation discloses details of the demand(s) that are outstanding as on the date shown in

column 8.

1. Amounts mentioned and demands outstanding (if any) are liable to be adjusted against the refunds arising on processing of

return in CPC. This may be treated as intimation u/s 245 of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

2. Please contact your current jurisdictional Assessing Officer for any clarifications on the Demand(s) stated in this intimation.

Any rectification/correction of the demand can be made only by the Assessing Officer. CPC cannot carry out

any modifications to the above demands nor can it clarify issues regarding these demands.

3. In order to know your current jurisdictional Assessing Officer (AO) you may log on to

https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on “Know Jurisdiction” under “SERVICES”.

4. The table below does not include the demands raised by CPC, if any. Kindly refer to the orders u/s 143(1)/154 issued by

CPC for those demands.

5. The interest u/s 220(2) is liable to be further computed till the date of payment.

*Even though all care has been taken to compile the existing arrears of demand, the statement below does not purport to be

an exhaustive list of demands outstanding as per Department’s records. This communication, which only seeks to convey the

position of demands intimated to CPC by the Assessing Officer, does not in any manner supercede the details of demand as

per the records of the latter and hence is subject to modification at any juncture

Thanks

What is the arrear amount..

It is about 40,000 and is close to the refund i received that year.

Do you have any guesses why i received this or  the process to notify the government i dont have any such dues?

Thanks

40,000 k is big.. i thought it will be around 1000 Rs which is usually sent as adjustment for some Interest.. My opinion is tat to consult an Auditor, than an agent, so that he will be able for file the appropriate reply...

Thanks again

Unfortunately,I am not in India to deal with this matter.

Do you know any phone number i can talk to.My local assessing officer is in Hyderabad .My jurisdiction according to the letter is

JCIT(P) RANGE-12, HYD

Thanks

I am from Chennai.. oly an Auditor in Hyd will be able to process it at much quicker pace since the case is with Joint Commissoner.. Just google it out sir for Auditor in Hyd..

Arrears means the demand tax amount payable by the assesee for it filings related to previous years. For example the assessee received intimation u/s.143(1) the income tax act, 1961 for AY 2008-09, but the assessee does't reply to the department. In this case the department sends arreas on demand notice to the assessee with accumulated interest for AY 2008-09

what if return filed twice and both returns showing different incomes. one was offline and other was online.
