Income receipts without tds

I need another help this is for my wife who is a house wife and has no profession at all. She has some fixed deposit in various natinalised bank but the total income ( interest income ) is below Rs 250000/- . Now today she received one message in her mobile "Your 26 AS statement for FY 16-17 shows income receipts without TDS. Please ascertain your liability & file income tax return in time ( By 31st July 2017 if not auditable).

Does she have to pay income tax and file return?

Need your expert comment in this regard. Till date she did not register in this site "incometaxindia.gov.in". Is there any way to view the 26 AS?

This is friendly massage issued by ITD to all most all, having income reflected under 26AS, but not filed return till date. It is to remind taxpayers about the last date of filing ITR.

As you said the total income received is below 2.50 lakhs in FY 2016-17; she need not file return.

Form 26AS can be assessed from net banking, traces login, e-filing IT login, etc.....

Thanks for the reply, actually she is a house wife and has no income and as per your reply it seems that she des not require to file income tax return.

My Mom also got the same message - I am an Income tax payee and my mom took loan of 5 lacs from our relatives for home construction. Do she has to pay income tax on that amount ??

Loan is not income. It requires to be paid back. Hence no income tax liability arises over loan amount. Only check....... if the loan amount was tranferred by any banking mode.
