can a pensioner (70yrs old) who earns interest income, claim incidental expenses like traveling to bank etc.? If yes, interest income as per Form26AS will not match with the computed interest income, what to do in that case?

U can't claim so, u need to show full amount
You can claim Standard Deduction of Rs. 40000
i understand that the standard deduction of 40k is available only from FY201819. I would like to get a solution for FY201718. the standard deduction has been introduced in lieu of travel allowance and medical reimbursement. i wonder whether those 2 expenses can be claimed this year then
No, you can't claim expenses, file your ITR as per Form 16A / 26AS
