If any article ship exemption is there

I have read in icai regulations that the period of articles be reduced for an work done as an audit assisstant. And now i want to known the eligibility of an audit assisstant becouse my friend is working in a chartered accountant firm and he didn't pass ipcc(group 1&2), is he eligible to register as an audit assisstant.
