ICAI Placement

Hi

I have cleared my CA in Jan 2008 and am not able to attend the campus interview in april.

I have one lecture pending in GMCS course.

Is it possible to attend the campus interview with May 2008 passouts in Oct 2008.

Or i will miss the chance.....

Mrs Kapoor who is taking care of campus interviews in Mumbai neither replies to email nor she is ever available on the phone and so couldnt get the above doubt cleared.

Please let me know if anyone is sure abt this

To me you would not be eligible for the next campus.

I will suggest you should directly talk to the chairman of Particular region eg nirc, circ, wirc etc they may better guide you and suggest you better solution.

You may get their number from the institute site.

Take prompt action.

two requirements are mandatory for campus placement April May 08

1. Articleship must be completed by the 30th june 2008

2. GMCS should be comleted before campus placement- this will be fulfilled in your case.

check your status of articleship?

if it is not over by the 30.06.2008, you are eligible for next campus placemnet in Oct. - Nov. 08

hi ...i cleared my ca in june 2009 attempt...i want to persue my career in IB.pls help me what to do?...at present my work ex is not as such required by IB'S. So i m thinking to do either cfa or mba. Can any one advice me whether i should join a job or should i start with my mba prep along with job or should i go for parttime or executive MBA or CFA? or should i join an IB as a analyst.

pls help me as i seriously want have a career in IB.

if you want a career in IB, then a CA should be sufficient. IB does not require any special knowledge, anyone can do it. Its just a matter of networking your way to a job. Send out your resumes to top banks, try to set up meetings with employees in those IBs and talk to them about their work. They could probably give a reference if they think youre ok. Im sure you will know someone that knows someone in IB. But IB is a boring job and your learning curve will peak after 6 months. not to mention the long hours of doing nothing more than powerpoint and word (not even excel). You need to have excellent communication skills, because an investment banker is essentially a broker between two parties. You will need to have other skills, not just a CA degree. But as far as i know, a CA with decent communication skills can get into IB. a CFA can be value additive, but not as much as networking. Do an MBA only if its from a top 10 b school in india, because anything lower than that and there is no point of having worked so hard to become a CA. At the end of the day, its all about networking. I'd say 50% of your success depends on networking, not just knowledge.

besides, its close to impossible to land a job as an associate at an IB soon after passing CA, unless you get some top 10 rank, and have brilliant communication skills and a solid network that can recommend you to a job. Even then, i havent heard of anyone that's become an associate soon after CA, atleast in a big IB. If youre serious about IB, then i think its best to join as an analyst, study for your CAT/GMAT alongside (i know its tough, but IB is tough) and hope for the best later on. Or you could network your way into a private equity job a year or so into IB.
