HRA in another city

Hello All,

I own a house in Gurgaon where I am employed. My hometown is close to 200 KM away from here, in the same state and I do work from there (Work From Home) many times. Additionally, I do stay there over weekends and I have set up everything there accordingly. My wife along with my kid stays there many times even when I am in Gurgaon. The home in my hometown is owned by my mother. Can I claim HRA on the rent that I pay to her for the home I maintain in my hometown?

Best Regards,

Shashank

Quick Summary
Shashank is seeking clarification on whether he can claim House Rent Allowance (HRA) for rent paid to his mother for a house in his hometown. He owns a separate property in Gurgaon where he is employed but frequently works from home and stays in his hometown, where his wife and child also reside. The key question is whether paying rent to a family member for a property not owned by the taxpayer is permissible for HRA claims.

Dear Shashank,
please confirm who is owner of Gurgaon house?
