HRA exemption under claimed

Hi I moved from Gurgaon to Bangalore this year and paid rent for 9 months @ gurgaon & 3 months @ Bangalore. During all these shifting, i have not submitted entire rent receipts... consequently HRA exemption U/S 10 in form-16 (both together) is lesser than actual rent i have paid (rent paid is least...amongst 3 rules to calculate HRA exemption)..Now can i change that while filing the return?

pl let me know... thanks!

You can make ur own computations while preparing and filing your income tax return. There is no need to submit any evidence at the time of filing the return. But if department requires the proofs for verification at the time of processing the return, you need to produce the same before the tax authorities against your claim of HRA. Also, if you have received salary from 2 employers and you have not declared it to ur existing employer, the salary paid by earlier employer is also need to be included in your computation.
