Rent paid in excess of 10% of basic salary*. Want to know about the salary (basic pay+grade pay) or (basic pay+grade pay+d.a.). please write about.

Basic will be considered in practice..DA & other allowance may be considered only if it is part of retirement benefits.

HRA exemption is least of the below
40/50% of basic salary
Rent paid - 10% of basic
Actual HRA
Salary under Income Tax act has different connotation.
The assesse must have a rent receipt and other conditions remaining same.
Salary for HRA purpose is Basic + DA if it's part of retirement benefits..

Generally basic will be considered many enterprises don't give DA
