In a process to hire a new recruit i came across an applicant who has submitted his current companies form 16 and last 3 months salary slip. Is there a way online or any software to cross check or verify as he has specificly told as per the clause we cant contact his current employe.

Well just check if form 16 submitted to you is downloaded from traces. If yes no more verification is required
How wan we identify is it downloaded from traces or not?
TDS certificate i.e form 16 is issued electronically from traces site. it is a mandatory provision. On every form downloaded you get mention of traces at heading. so simply check if it is downloaded form or a manually/ traditionally prepared form by the employer himself.
Make policy to fobtain electronically obtained TDS and salary certificate from current / existing employer to avoid such situations.

Certificates downloaded from TRACES are in a specific format. A form downloaded from TRACES would bear a 7 character alphabet unique certificate number and it will also have a TDS- CPS logo on the left side and a national emblem on the right side at the top. This certificate would provide the details of the income paid to you and also the tax deducted from that income by the payer and whether the same has been deposited by him with the government.
