Step 1
A "good cry" may help or may not. A "good cry" may lower your brain chemicals that make you feel down. However, it can leave you still thinking about the depressing situation: however, turning to distractions like reading, TV, puzzles, video games, day dreaming and planning your next vacation all help more that the "good cry".
Exercise is one of the most effective tactics for lifting your spirits, esp. if you are a lazy person. For those people who exercise routinely, they feel bad if they miss their exercise session.
Exercise changes the body's state of arousal. Low arousal is sadness, exercise is high arousal. Relaxation works for anxiety but relaxationmethods of reducing anxiety do not so well for depression. Each changes the level of activity of the brain and causes sadness to release its grip.

Step 2
You also can make the sadness go or lessen by treating yourself to hot baths, eating a favorite food, listening to your favorite music or of course s*x.
Do not turn to drinking and drugs! -
Step 3
Engineer a small sucess by tackling a long delayed chore around the house or doing some other long over due activity.
Whatever you can do to your lift your selfesteem will cheer you. Get dressed up and put your make up on. That in itself will make you feel better. Look good and you feel good.

Step 4
If you have lost a boyfriend, do not dwell on his pretty blue eyes and how romantic this or that date was... dwell on his mean statements, his cheating, his drug use, whatever was wrong with him! See the loss differently!
Bring to mind those in worse situations than yourself.
This works well for cancerpatients and other illness... there is always someone in worse condition! DO NOT compare yourself to healthy people or how you were!
Prayer is a powerful relief so Pray about it! God will help those who ask! All you have to do is ask. -
Step 5
Help someone else in need. Find a cause to work for... there are plenty of volunteer oportunities out there. Throw yourself into it! This is one of the most powerful mood lifters, yet it is rarely thought of and used! Oink Oink!! Go hog wild!
