Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies whether you can claim House Rent Allowance (HRA) when paying rent to your parents. The consensus is that it is permissible, provided you have a legally sound rental agreement in place. It's recommended to have this agreement on stamp paper, ideally notarised, and to pay the rent regularly via cheque, ensuring it's reflected in your bank statements.
