yes you can do that.
The amount of benefit under chapter VI A is only available to the extend of Gross Total Income. Therefore no refund available
you won't be able to get any refunds as you have filed a nil return

benefits of home loan interest repayment you can take under house property income & you have filled nil return so you can claim loss under house property if you have filed return within due date.
but you can't take deduction of principle repayment of house property as you have shown nil income.
