i get the membership of the icai wef 19 dec 2012and not holding cop .my query i have to complete 10 cpe hours by 31.1.2013 fo the year 2012 or i shall be exempted in the first year of membership .

As per Para 6.2, of the attached file.
A member for the first time is exempt from CPE hours for the first calender year.
Since you got membership on 19-12-2012, your exemption eligibility is only for Calender year 2012
Hence you need to fulfill 10 hours in Calender 2013.
SO I HAVE TO COMPLETE 10 CPE HOURS BY 31.12.2013
yes it is compulsory for you from 01-01-2013 to complete 10 hours per year and 45 hours in a block of three years.
