You can get the details from Company Master Data at MCA21 portal.

I am taking up a Company for clearing it wid example. The CIN No of Company TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES LIMITED is L22210MH1995PLC084781.

The first letter of CIN L signifies that the Company is listed. For unlisted Companies it will be U.

Next, letters MH signifies that the Company is situated in Maharastra, similarly WB for West Bengal etc.

1995 mentioned after MH signifies the year of incorporation of the Company.

PLC signifies that it is a public company. For private companies it will be PTC.

Next 6 digits after PLC is registration no of the Company.

And name of the Company will signify the nature of business of the Company.
