Hi, Kumar,

Your idea to make this site as platform to share knowledge is good.  There are always definite advantages in indirect taxes by looking into the prospects since many of the CAs, I personally feel, elergetic to indirect taxes especially CT laws.  Thus, this apathy of some CAs gives more room for CAs who desire to work in indirect taxes.  I am presently with one of the leading infrstructure companies at Hyderabad.  You may go through my article titled  "Works Contractors - A cue from SC's decision" submitted in this site on 14/10/2008 and offer your opinion.

HELLO,

CAN U TELL ME THAT HOW COULD I KNOW THAT ON PARTICULAR ITEM WE GET INPUT ON THAT OR NOT . PLS SPECIFY THE SPECIFIC ITEM IN WHICH WE COULD NOT GET CREDIT (IF POSSIBLE)    SERVICE TAX

Please see the definition for "Input" and "Input services" under Cenvat Credit Rules, 2004.  In nut shell, if the inputs or input services are not used in or in relation to the manufacturing of excisable products or for providing output taxable services, then no cenvat credit is available on such inputs or input services.  Another point is the finished products or output services should not be exempted from excise duty or service tax.
