GST Registration for Residential Housing Association Society

Hi Experts,

I am writing on behalf of my Residential housing association which is registered as a non profit society.

The housing society has to make GST payment while purchasing goods and availing services from vendor for maintenance of the society. The housing society has not registered under GST as they are exempted from collecting GST on the monthly maintenance changers from flat owners, since the monthly maintenance charges in less than the threshold limit of Rs 7500 per member. hence there is no GST collected from members of the society on the monthly maintenance charges.

We would like to know if there is any advantage in the housing society registering itself under GST.

Can the housing society claim refund of the input tax paid to vendors while purchasing goods and availing services ?

Yes , the benefit of Registration you yourself quoted in last para of your query.

yes if you obtain registration , you can claim ITC as per . condition prescribed in section 16 CGST Act .

Thanks for your response.

The Housing society is not collecting GST from its members, hence there will be no GST remittance, in this case the ITC claim will result in a refund. Is there a provision for the ITC claim refund ?
