:)I'm going to appear in GrII of CA final in coming May07.Due to lack of coaching facilities in Guwahati I've decided to go for self study. Please let me know good standard books for Cost management,DT and IDT paper which can help me in self study. From my Inter level I've always stick to one book apart from the study modules,so recommend such books which are exam oriented.

Hi,
Thank you all of you for your reply. From the suggestions I guess the book on Cost management by Saravana Prasad has gain much inroads among the student community.Although Saxena Vashist is widely recommended but now it seems the book by Saravana Prasad has overtaken it.In the same way Ahuja Gupta for Direct taxes has not been recommended. As both these writers are new to me please let me know the pluse points of the books which would help me in my self preparations.

hi there ,
(1) cost mgmt for final can be best read by Saxena vasisth + u need to study past questions from CIMA london bcoz ICAI in past had asked questions which were copy of CIMA london. FOR CIMA london questions u can search on the net and also go to British library.
(2) Ahuja-gupta is not a very good book for DT bcoz it only explains the section as it is without any commentry. I guess TN manhoran is good book. I have read DT from 2 books namely TN manhoran + Singhania(taxmann). I prefer Singhania over TN manhoran. TN manhoran is good for quick studies but for comphrensive n deep study u must read from Singhania.
Well select one book and study bcoz less time is left.
(3) FOR Indirect tax i will strongly, I say strongly, refer to Indirect tax-law and practice from VS datey (taxmann). Thats the most excellent book. I also purchased Bangar but its a total rubbish and wasatge of time. U can not gain anything from BANGAR.
So sit and think

Hi Shiv,
Thanks very much for sparing time to answer my query.I was also thinking of going for Saxena and Vashist for Cost Mgt but as adviced my majority of students about Saravana Prasad I'm a bit confused although I followed Saxena vasisth for my PEII.So far as DT is concerned I think I"ll go for Manoharan although it will also be new to me.But your suggestion about IDT has put me in confusion, you have mentioned about someone which others hve not adviced till now.Could you please let me know the pluse of Saxena Vashist and VS Datey?.

hi pranjal and all
i m hardik appeared for both in nov 06 and will appear for CS Final in dec 06
let me share what i really fealt
For exam pupose sarvan prasad is good. i wud rather call it a compilation. it has all sums frm prev. exams and RTPs. For conceptual understanding Saxena Vasisth is very good.
For DT i referred Aahuja, Manoharan and Vinod gupta's notes. In my opinoin Manoharan is nt enough. For thorough understanding go for Vinod Gupta's notes are good.In december issue of our news latter adv of these notes is published. For IDT baganar is really a good book. it can help even in d case of tough paper bt thorough reading is required.
thanx and regards

hi pranjal ,
i will say one thing look time is very less for u since MAY 07 is just 4 months ahead and u have 1 month time for each subject. Regarding the saxena-vasisth i will say just purchase it and study don't wate time now.
FOR IDTL VS datey is my 1st choice and Bangar 2nd. U go to any book stall and then compare both books.
Bangar is a question answer type like a guide book or compilation of question and answer. on the otherhand the VS datey is a commentry book and coverl all the essential material with referance to latest cases and also giving the commentry to explain the provision in detail. Well i am not against Bangar but i will still prefer VS datey. Now its up to u to decide. I have studied both books and at the end i found VSDatey on top of Bangar. So if u have made mood for Bangar go for it and purchase it and study it since less time is left for exams. Any book u purchase i will reccomend that u need to study that book 3 time.
1st study is just going through
2nd study to learn and revise and getting things in brain.
3rd study to revise and reciete.
Choose any book and study.
bye and take care

Hi Pranjal
The books you can choose for self study are:
1. Direct Tax : Study Notes from Vinod Gupta Sir
2. Indirect Tax : Ajay Jain (Almost 85% direct questions from his books are generally asked in exams)
3. MAFA : Dr. J.B. Gupta (Very Simple Book to understand the Concepts on our own)
4. Costing : Saxena & Vashishth.
The above books are very good for self study and they all are very much exam oriented books.
In case of any help you can mail me your query at sumit.aggarwal @ rediffmail.com
