A book by V.S. DATEY is very good....
AJAY JAIN IS VERY GOOD BOOK
AND READ WITH HIS QUESTION BANK, THAT IS VERY USEFUL FOR EXAM POINT OF VIEW
VYDHEESWRAN INDIRECT TAXES BOOK IS PREFARABLE ALONG WITH COACHING. OTHERWISE FALLOW AJAY JAIN WITH QUESTION BANK
Ajay Jain and then back it up with his QB.
Go for Vaitheeswaran's book on indirect taxes. this is very useful in the examination point of view. If you want to gain absolute command over the subject, then go for yoginder bangar's book.

DATAR is commentry, its very very good book
