Finding IP address

1642 views 3 replies

When i receive a mail in yahoo, from message header, i get IP address. But the location is that of ISP and not that of the sender.

Is there any way to find the IP address and or location of the sender?

I read in a book that mostly IP addresses are dynamic. Even if  i find an IP address, if i don't trace the person immediately, then there are greater chances of selecting another person is high. isn't it?

Please follow the link www.ip2location.com/free.asp
lemme explain IP are dynamically alloted to subscriber when they connect to Internet (this is basically true for BSNL Dataone and TCP/IP connections) . Where else in many cases like SIFY broadband the users are assigned static IP address . So if you have and IP address you can trace the location by using the service of sites like IP2location , locatemyip.co etc. But the problem with them is that will only provide CITY/ISP/State/Country details .. which i guess isn't enough to trace the sender of mail or anything ,u wont be able to trace the person from the ip address. the only way out is go to your ISP and ask them to give the details regarding "WHOM THIS IP WAS ALLOCATED SAY ON 20TH SEP 2007" .. thus they will give you the details . Mind it .. this service at present can only be utilized by Govt Deptt like Poilice , CBI etc for controlling cyber crime. Suraj jain
