Filing returns individual and deceased husband joint or separate

Tax queries 123 views 2 replies

Hello,

My dad expired last year. His final returns need to be filed with my mother being a representative. I have 2 queries

1, Can my mom file her own returns and then later on file returns of my dad (since succession certificate will take some time)

2 Also in relation to point 1 all my dad's bank accounts and FD's were all joint with mom as second holder,,in all those accounts my dad's name has been deleted so the money in all those accounts/FDs now belong to single holder my mom. Should all that money be considered as Exempt income.?

thanks

1. Yes, can be done.... (return of your DAD to be filed till the date of his death)

2. Yes

Thanks a lot...you have helped me a lot...in this difficult time.

The only question remains that since my dad had many bank accounts and FD;s...it took me couple of months ..nearly 4 months to close all the accounts and transfer the FD's to my mom...so lot of interest etc has been credited to the bank accounts "before" its closure and "AFTER"  his death. Should this income be also included ..when legal heir files the return. (I mean is it income strictly till  the date of death or till the closure of bank accounts and transfer of FD's)

Thanks once again.
