Hi,

I am an NRI from 2008, not submitted IT returns up to now. I don't have taxable income in India (Bank Interest received is below the minimum limit). Now I wanted to submit IT Returns. What should I do?

Regards,

Rajesh Ramachandran

Dear Ramchandran,

As per my understanding you need to file any one of the following income tax returns (ITR) applicable for indiviaduals on the basis on nature of their income:

  1. ITR 1 (SAHAJ) - For individuals having income from Salary and interest.
  2. ITR 2 - Individual having income from business or profession.
  3. ITR 3 - Individuals being partners in firm.
  4. ITR 4 - Individuals having income from proprietory business/profession.
  5. ITR 4S - Individuals having income from presumptive business.

For filing a return online you need to have the following documents ready:

  1. PAN
  2. Bank Account Number/ISFC code
  3. Registration details on income tax e filing portal.

Kindly PM or mail me in case of further query.

It depends for which year you want to file return. You can do it for max 2 years from teh date of filing, it may involve some penalty depending on the case, as u said yr income is below a limit so it should be easy. You can file online but for earlier years there is no provision to file it. For exceptions, you can meet you AO and discuss.
